Read Gen. 40
This is the account of the butler and the baker. Both of them were in prison for poisoning the king; one through his food and the other through his drink. But only one was guilty. Dreams are in symbols which have to be interpreted. Everyone has their own dream language though there are some symbols that are universal. The first thing to look at in a dream is the setting. The butler is in a vineyard which had to do with his job since his job was making wine for the king. He saw 3 branches that budded, blossomed and produced grapes right before his eyes. This was a process of time so Joseph knew that these 3 branches stood for time. How he knew it was days and not years I don't know. That is where knowing God's voice comes in handy. He took these grapes and pressed them into Pharoah's hands which meant he would once again present the king his wine.
The baker's dream did not have the same happy meaning. He dreamed he had 3 bread baskets on his head. There's the setting: his job. I'm sure he carried his bread on his head every day. The top basket was full of things he had baked for the king and the birds came and ate them out of the basket on his head. Birds are a picture of spirits. They can be good like the dove that ascended from heaven when Jesus was being baptized or bad like the raven. In Jerimiah birds are compared to deceivers but mostly they referred to as devourers. In the bakers dream they were the devouer coming to steal his life. Interesting that he would be hung. The baskets were on his head and his head was the way he died.
These events would have happened without the dreams but the significance of these dreams were that one day this event would be Joseph's "get out of jail" card. God set it all up. I have seen people's lives totally transformed after hearing the interpretation of their dream. God said that he gives his beloved even in their sleep.
Lord, give us restful sleep and help us to remember our dreams so that we might learn more about you.
