Saturday's Devo - Open Our Eyes That We Might See.

Read Luke 18:31-43
This was in my daily reading today which caused me to stop and ponder. I have noticed that many times Jesus will teach a truth and the next story will illustrate the teaching. Here Jesus is telling his disciples that all the prophesies about his death and resurrection were fixing to happen. They didn't understand anything about what he told them. It says that his words were hidden from them and they couldn't see it.
The next thing that happens is they meet a blind beggar. He hears the noise of the crowd and asks what's going on. They tell him that Jesus is coming and being blind he "sees" that his hope is coming down the road. He cried out for mercy over and over and louder and louder till he finally got Jesus' attention. When Jesus asked what he wanted he said, "I want to see." Jesus replied, "All right, receive your sight. Your faith has healed you." Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too.
What a picture of what is going on right now in our world. Prophecy is being fulfilled right and left. The world is getting darker, sin is abounding, the hearts of many are growing cold, times are shaky and even the elect are being tried by fire. Even though we have read about the last days many of us are shocked and disillusioned that we are being affected by it. The disciples were affected by Jesus death. They all dispersed and were like sheep without a sheperd. But it was all a part of God's great plan to bring salvation to the world. What seemed like the worse thing on earth - Jesus dying - became the best thing. We have to have 'eyes to see'.
The blind beggar stands for those that are needy in this world. They have nothing to lose by trusting Jesus. They have lost their job, their family, their way but hear that Jesus can heal. Even though they are blind they will be given the ability to see and have faith.
The disciples were guilty of not seeing the times they were living in. Let's not be blind to our time. We are in the last days and things in this world are only going to get worse, but we can't live in fear. Things in the spirit are going to be alive and we can be like the disciples who don't see it or like the blind beggar whose eyes are opened. I pray for mercy that we might see.
