Tues.’s Devo- God’s Rest

Read Gen. 7:18- 8:5

The waters covered the highest mountains by about 15 feet. They measured in cubits which was the distance between the elbow and the wrist which is about 12”. Everything above the earth died: all humans, birds, animals, and man. The water stayed for 150 days. For Noah’s sake God stopped the floods and sent a wind to change the weather. It was like his hand being waved over the earth, stilling the waters and calling them to dry up. Noah’s ark rested on the mountain of Ararat in the 7th month, Tishrei) on the 17th day. That is the same day that the Jews celebrate the feast of tabernacles which represents the final rest we will have with the Lord in heaven after Jesus returns. Ararat means “the curse reversed”. The whole earth will experience the curse reversed from that time on. The lion will lie down with the lamb, the Christians will reign on the earth, etc. (Is. 11, 65) Right now, we are to live this out in a spiritually hostile environment. We do this by faith, wielding our weapon of the Word of God. Jesus came to take the curse from us so we are to live in freedom. The waters continued to decrease till the 1st day of the 10th month. Ten is the number for a trial and I would say this was a trial!

Lord, prepare us to fight for our rest in this tumultuous world and to find it in the shelter of your wings.
