Thurs.’s Devo- Be Fruitful and Multiply

Read Gen. 8:14- 9-7

In the second month (division), on the seventh (complete) and twentieth (separated and measured) day the earth dried. That means: God brought a division between the evil and the good on the earth. When the judgement was complete only Noah and his family were found holy. Then God spoke to Noah and told him to take his family and all the animals and let them loose on the earth to repopulate the earth. Noah took lumber from the ark and built an altar to God. He took some of the clean animals (the ones that God told him to take 7 of ) and sacrificed them to God. God promised never to destroy the earth like that again. As long as the earth remains there will be seeds planted and harvested, seasons and cycles.

So God blessed Noah and his sons and sent them out to be fruitful. He then put a fear between man and animal that had not been there before because for the first time God told man he could eat meat. The only stipulation was that it had to be dead first. If you kill a man, then you shall be killed. Once again, he told them to be fruitful and multiply and bring forth abundantly.

This is still our commandment from God: to be fruitful and multiply or as Jesus said to “go ye therefore into all nations…”. We can do that in so many ways: we spread our joy to others, we give of the abundance God has given us, we give out our salvation to all who are around us. We can multiply peace to others simply by being quieted in our own spirit. We can multiply knowledge by teaching others. We can multiply understanding by being understanding to others. There are so many ways we can be fruitful and multiply on the earth.

Lord, help us to spread the gospel in all that we do that the knowledge of you will occupy the whole earth.
