Thurs.’s Devo - Enoch

Read Gen 5:24

We pick up today with Enoch. Enoch is all about time. He lived 365 years which is how many days in our year. He walked with God till one day he walked right into heaven by-passing death. In Hebrews 11, that great hall of fame chapter, Enoch is mentioned in verse 5: “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” He is mentioned again in Jude. Jude is talking about ungodly people on the earth and mentions examples of three: Cain, Balaam, and Korah. Enoch wrote a book which is not in our Bible. It was recovered in 1948 when they found the Dead Sea Scrolls. Much of Jude is quotes from Enoch’s book and Jesus quotes Enoch over 25 times. In the Book of Enoch he prophesies the coming judgement. Their coming judgment was the flood, but it parallels our coming judgment, which will be the return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Jude says that Enoch was the 7th generation from Adam which is a clue that after 6000 years God will complete his work and we will be taken from the earth just like Enoch was if we walk with God. The “rapture” is not for the carnal Christian, but for the ones who, like the wise virgins, had their oil in their lamps. We must be looking earnestly for his coming or we will be left to go through judgment on earth.

Lord, may we be ready and faithful when you return.
