Fri’s Devo - The Outcome

Read Gen. 14:8-18

We go back to the first verses where these forces of evil are contending against one another. I believe Chedorlaomer is the devil himself since his name means “the one who binds”. These four evil principalities went up against the 5 other principalities and they fought in a depression called the vale of Siddim which means “furrows, or cultivators”. A furrow is a tunnel dug in the ground which is where they came from. This place was full of slime pits (how fitting). The kings of Sodom (fettered) and Gomorrah (bondage) fell there and all remaining fled to the mountain. Notice how everyone goes to the mountain of prayer when things go bad. Even when it is their fault - esp. when it is their fault. They were completely plundered which is what the devil does - he doesn’t play fair and he is out to steal everything from us. Lot had chosen to live with these vial people, so he was taken with the spoils. One person escaped to tell Abram that his nephew had been kidnapped. Abram had joined himself with good people. When he heard the news about Lot he mustered all his family, 318 in all, and went after them to Dan which means “to judge”. It was going to be judgment day for someone. He got back everything they had taken along with Lot - their goods, women, and all the people. When he came back to Sodom with all their people and stuff the king came out to meet him. In the valley of Shaveh (equality). Amazing how things equal out on the battle field. This king comes to meet a nobody to thank him. Another interesting king came to the meeting - Melchizedek. We could write a book about this guy and most of it would be speculation. He is a mystery, but the Bible gives us lots of hints, and God loves to reveal the answer to mysteries.

Lord, we are made more and more aware that we are living in a spiritual battle. Make us awake to our part.
