Mon.'s Devo - The Goodness of God

Read Pro. 11:23
"The desire of the righteous is only good." I had to think about this one, but it is true: if you are righteous then you think what God thinks. God desires good and works everything toward that end so we will do the same because he is in us. When we become a new creature we get God's nature. We then choose to follow our new nature or revert back to the pattern or our old nature. If we want to grow then we will allow the things that God loves to be the things that we love and the things he hates, the things we hate. It is impossible to have the desires of God and be depressed or hopeless. God sees the good in the worse criminal and the worse situations. When we think there is no way to fix something, God always has an answer. He has an answer to the oil spill, the economy, divorce, abuse, etc and it is good.
But the wicked can only look forward to the wrath of God. Because God is good, he disciplines sinners, judges rightly, and destroys the ungodly. We sometimes get that mixed up and think that God should let everyone go free no matter what they have done. God has to judge the wicked because he is a good God.
Lord, by your kindness lead your people to repentance. May we desire you goodness in us and love the things you love and hate the things you hate.
