Wed.'s Devo - Walk in Resurrected Life

Read Romans 6:1-16
The question Paul asks is: "Should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace?" He quickly answers, "NO". When we get saved we die to sin so we shouldn't live there anymore. That is the picture of baptism. We are baptized into his death so our going under the water symbolizes our death and burial of sin. When we come out of the water it symbolizes our resurrection to new life. Jesus was resurrected into a heavenly kingdom and so are we. The only difference is we are still on this earth. We are truly 'new creatures' so the things that entertained our old man should not be entertaining to our new man.
Jesus died once to sin so since he could only die once, death has no more power over him. We have died to sin, so sin should have no more power over us. We now have a new life in heavenly places with him. So we should live that way. We don't have to obey our natural lusty desires and if we yeild our members to God sin will have no power over us.
Next question: Should we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? A resounding NO. Vs. 16 is a powerful verse: "Don't you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living."
In the Old Testament (Ex. 21) it gives the laws of a slave which is the picture that Paul is trying to explain. If a slave has served a master for 6 years, in the 7th year he is to be set free. But if he chooses to stay because he loves his master, then the master is to bring him in front of the judges to witness his decision. He will then take an aul which is like a nail and hammer it through his ear to the door of his house. Then he will serve his master forever. This is a picture of salvation. We choose to have God as our master so he nails us to Jesus who is the door. In other words we become partakers of his sufferings. But it doesn't stop there. It says that he is a slave forever. We are God's forever and he has some great plans for our future and one day we will be partakers of his glory which is our inheritance.
Lord, Hebrews 2:18 says that you suffered being tempted so you are able to aid and relieve those that are tempted. Help us in our weaknesses to be strong and triumph over them. He choose you as our master.
