Read John 21:7-25
Peter was the impulsive one. He can't wait till the boat gets to land: he jumps out and swims. Forget the fact that they needed help with all the fish they were dragging in. Jesus was on land waiting with a spread of fish and bread cooking on the warm fire. He asked them to give some of their fish too. God always requires something of us. He is always willing to feed us but we have to do our part too. This time it meant giving fish. So Peter goes out to the boat and drags the nets to the land and even though there were 153 fish, the net didn't break. If every fish weighed 5 pounds that would be 765 lbs!
Jesus said, "Come and dine." So this was the third time he had appeared to them and he broke bread and fed them. Then he turned to Peter and asked him three times if he loved him more than he loved the disciples and three times Peter answered him yes. Each time Jesus told him to feed his sheep. Jesus was doing what he wanted the church to do: feed the sheep.
Then Jesus went on to prophesy the death that Peter would die and when Peter asks about John's prophecy, Jesus tells him to mind his own business.
The last verse tells us that Jesus did so many other miracles that they couldn't write them all down. That is a word to the church. We are to feed God's people the Word of God and watch God do so many miracles that we can't write them down. So respond to his invitation to come and feast on his words.
