Read Ps. 1
Well, we have finished Ruth and I don't know where to go next. I am leaving for Louisiana for a week and won't be back on-line till next Wed. By then I will know where we will be studying from. So today I just felt drawn to Ps. 1. I love this Psalms and memorized it years ago. It is a great one to put to memory and it is not too long. Maybe you will want to memorize it while I am gone:)
The very first line says "blessed is the man that doesn't walk in the counsel of the ungodly." Today in my regular reading I was reading in 2 Kings 1 where Israel's king, Ahaziah fell through the roof and was seriously injured. He wanted to know if he would live so he sent messengers to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask if he would recover or not. God told Elijah to send a message to the king asking him why he is asking this faulse god instead of the God of Israel. He said that because Ahaziah did this he would die. Pretty stiff penalty for seeking ungodly counsel.
Where do we go to for counsel? Our best friend? Sometimes they have the word of the Lord for us, but sometimes they don't. Our husband? Good choice, but still not the best. Oprah? She is not even in our camp. Doctors, lawyers, counselors? These are all possibilities, but not until you have gone to The Counselor - The Holy Spirit. He will lead us into all truth. James asks: "Does anyone lack wisdom? Let him ask God, who gives it liberally.
The second verse says that this blessed man delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night. Because he does that he is firmly planted like a tree. He is also watered and bears fruit.
That is our prayer today Lord, that we would go to you first for counsel and that we would receive the wisdom we need. And we pray that we would go out watered by your spirit and bringing forth fruit for you kingdom.
