Mon.'s Devo - Seasoned Words

Read Pr. 25:8-13
If we did what these verses teach then we could save many friendships. When we are offended by someone, instead of telling other people about it we should go straight to them. Telling other people only gets back to the one who offended us and they are threatened by our gossip. They become defensive so that when we do talk to them they already have their minds made up about the situation. How much better it would be if we kept the problem to ourselves and prayed about it. Then God could give us the right words and we could confront them and do it in a way that isn't damaging to them. Verses 11 and 12 say that when we say the right words it is like fragrant oil and even if it is a reproof if will be a blessing if it falls on obedient ears. Jesus never talked about the Pharisees but he sure confronted them to their faces. They might not have liked him but in the end some of them crossed over to become believers.
Lord, help us to speak the truth in love and not to gossip about people behind their backs.
