Thurs.’s Devo - Day Two

Read Gen. 1:6-8

On the second day God created an atmosphere in the middle of the waters. He separated them and put some of the waters on earth and sent some of the waters to the heavens. He called this separation Heaven. The meaning of this word Heaven in the Hebrew is the visible arch where the clouds move as well as the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve. The key word is “visible”. It is the sky as we see it. Waters in the Bible are a picture or symbol of spirit. When God pours down his spirit it is like rain or refreshing water. Paul talked about the spirits of this world which are different from the spirits in heaven. God always makes a distinction between his spirits, the spirits of the world, and the evil spirits of Satan. Eph. 2:2 says: “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. “ All through the Bible water is synonymous with spirit. Jesus spoke to the woman at the well asking her for a drink. When she was surprised he would talk to her as a Samaritan he told her that if she realized who she was speaking to she would be asking him for living water. Jesus was associating water with his Holy Spirit. So we see that on the second day God is separating the evil spirits from the righteous spirits. So the number 2 means divide the holy from the unholy.

Lord, every day we have to divide rightly your word of truth. Give us discernment to see beyond the veil into the realm of the spirit.
