Read 1 Pet. 2:16-25
God has set us free from the bondage of sin. Think about that. What a blessing to be free from guilt. But, we are not to use this great freedom we have been given as a covering to be bad. We are to use this freedom to serve God. We do this by honoring all men. I'm already guilty. It is easy to honor those who give us a reason to want to honor them, but what about those who give us no encouragement in this area. We are still to value them and love them. We are also to fear God and honor the king (or president in our case). I guess that is why it says to fear God first; it takes Godly fear to honor the king. If we are an employer we are to honor our boss even if they are crooked or warped. Then it goes on to say that if we are moral and serve God we are to be thankful if we have to endure unjust treatment. It does not glorify God if we suffer because it's our fault; but it does glorify God if we patiently endure suffering when it is not our fault. Is that not what Jesus did? He has been the only sinless man to walk this earth and he was threatened, beaten, spit on, lied about, betrayed, and finally cut to shreds and nailed to a cross. But those scars bought our healing. We were all sinners getting worse and worse till we turned to Christ the Shepard and Bishop of our souls.
Lord, You set us free from bondage, may we walk in the freedom you purchased for us and may we walk in a manner pleasing to you.
