Friday's Devo - Establish Your House

Read 1 Chron. 17
David is comparing his palace to the tent that houses the ark and thinks he should build God a house. He wants to get this ark that is hid in curtains into a house made of cedars so all can see its importance. God tells Nathan to tell David not to build it. Then he goes on to tell David his ways. God's manifested presence has not dwelt in a house since the day he made Israel a nation because it has gone from tent to tent, and from tabernacle to tabernacle.
David's reign is what we are living in now. It is not time to build God a house for his presence. His spirit has not dwelt in one place or one person, or one church but has gone from person to person, church to church. We are the tent that the spirit lives in. One day he will have a temple in heaven that we will worship at.
Then God goes on to say he has taken David from the sheep stable to the kingdom and has cut off his enemies. He has given him a name that is great in the earth. God took Jesus from the manger and tending disciples to the kingdom of heaven. He has given him a name above all other names and by that name all will bow.
Verse 9 is for us: God has ordained a place for us in Him that we shall not be moved or wasted by the devil. He has given us authority over our enemies and he will build us a house. When we die he will raise up our children to establish his kingdom. Our children will build his house and establish his throne for ever. Of course, he was talking about Solomon and his reign but I think that is prophetic of what God is doing right now. He is planting in us things that will be established in and through our children. Yesterday I talked about the cymbalist, the musician and his duty to bring the body to unity and repentence. How prophetic that yesterday one of the world's greatest musicians died, Michael Jackson. One of the magazines had his picture and in large letters DEAD. Michael Jackson was a musician of extraordinary talents, he just used them for the wrong side. I see a new generation of musicians using their talents for the right side. Across their picture God will write ALIVE.
Lord, we pray like David did, "let your house be established that your name may be magnified for ever and ever.
