Tues.'s Devo - The Poor Beggar

Read Pr. 22:22-23
All the deeds of man are written in God's books. In the Bible, the poor would sit at the gates of the city to beg. Some were given money and some were kicked and scorned by those who entered the city. I saw this when I went to the old city in Yemen. There were children who were lying on their backs with deformities wanting hand outs. The sad thing about it was that some of the parents maimed their children so they could manipulate the hearts of those that saw their children and give more. These children were professional beggars and they were good at it. It is not our job to judge these people but to be kind and compassionate. God sees their plight and watches to see our response. Just because they are poor and have no way of improving their status does not mean that we kick them when they are down. God is no respecter of person's and will defend them just like he would his son.
Lord, help us to not harden our hearts to the poor and the beggar. Touch our hearts to what touches yours.
