Thurs.'s Devo - Applying Instruction

Read Pr. 23:12-14
We are suppose to "apply" our heart to instruction. That means to work on receiving it. Instruction includes chastisement, reproof, warning, instruction, and also restraint. Who wants to be reproved? I hate it most of the time. But I love instruction and I don't mind warnings. The reason is that instruction and warnings come before you mess up and have to be reproved or chastised. I would rather do it right the first time. I am in the middle of a reproof right now. I ignored the instruction, plowed through the warning signs and am sitting with the dunce cap on in the corner of the room. It is not comfortable or fun. The thing is we usually keep making the same mistakes because we keep doing the same things. That is where the "applying" comes in. We have to have a change of heart which is the God part. We have to want to change and then allow God to change us. The good thing is that he will. He will even take out his rod and use it on us to save us from the hell we are bringing upon ourselves.
Lord, thank you for your instruction and all it means. Help us to change our hearts to your will.
