Sat.’s Devo - God’s Kingdom Will Reign

Read: Zechariah 10:1-11:17; Revelation 18:1-24; Psalm 146:1-10; Proverbs 30:33 God told the people to ask him for the latter rain because he was the only one who could bring it. The people trusted in their idols and household gods to bring them comfort and what they needed. These idols were full of empty hopes and lies. The people wandered aimlessly without a godly leader. God was angry at the religious leaders who were supposed to teach the people God’s laws but were instead leading them into idolatry. *** Zechariah declared that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had arrived. He would change everything. He would fight with them to save them from their enemies. They will turn back to the Lord and he will strengthen them and lead them into battle. They will prosper and multiply and return to Israel to resettle in the land the Lord gave them. *** Lebanon, the source of cedars for building, would go down in flames. These cedars stood for the leaders of Lebanon. *** God told Zechariah to go and care for those who were going to be killed. The leaders boasted in the money they would have when they slaughtered all the people. But, Zechariah went and cared for the oppressed. He took two staffs and named one Favor and the other Union. He cut Favor in two breaking the covenant he had with the nations. He got rid of three leaders who were leaders of the different factions. *** Then, Zechariah asked them to pay him for what they thought he was worth. They paid him 30 pieces of silver which was the price of a bond slave. It was the same insult that Judas was paid to betray Jesus. The Lord had him throw the money to the potter in the Temple which was the same thing Judas did. *** He then cut the staff named Union in two, breaking the unity between Judah and Israel. God told Zechariah to go and play the part of the worthless shepherd who doesn’t care for his sheep. He was to declare the sorrow that awaited the worthless shepherds of his day who didn’t care for their people. *** In Revelation, John saw another angel coming down from heaven. He was given authority to declare that Babylon was fallen. Babylon stood for all the immorality and injustice of the world. She will experience the pain she brought upon the world. She will now see how it is to live in terror, torment and sorrow. She had refused to repent of her evil so she will be overtaken by plagues in a single day and judged by fire. The nations who joined in her crimes will go down with her. The money system that she devised will fall. All who participated in her market will fall with her. The people of God and the apostles and prophets will rejoice over her fate because God has judged in their favor. The angel picked up a millstone and threw it into the ocean showing that Babylon would fall just like that. It is the same picture Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream of the stone which shattered the whole statue. This is that. Babylon will never be heard from again. *** Hallelujah! Our Lord Reigns! We sing praises to you, Lord for you overcome the world! Your Kingdom will reign forever.
