Thurs.'s Devo - O Grave Where is Your Power?

Read John 19:38-42
Joseph of Arimathaea, an underground believer begged Pilate for the body of Jesus so he could put it in his tomb. In the Old Testament Joseph made the Israelites promise that they would take his bones into the promise land, a land full of milk and honey- God's garden. So they put Josephs bones in a container and carried them into the Promise Land and buried him there. Jesus is carried by another Joseph into a stone container where he will ascend to his promise land. This tomb was in a garden which was where Jesus' earthly life started - the garden of Eden. It says of this sepulcre (which means "a remembrance") was where never man yet laid. That is because man had never been here before. This was a new kind of death: it paid for the sin of mankind and this death defeated death. The grave would never be the same. It had lost it's power and death had lost its sting.
Nicodemus which means "victorious" brought spices to anoint Jesus' body. In the Old Testament spices were used to make anointing oil to anoint people and things for God's service. Everything that was anointed with this oil was considered holy. Jesus was wrapped in linen cloths to signify his priestly office. This was to be his new ministry - our High Priest. He now intercedes for us at the right hand of the father.
Jesus, thank you for the cruel death you endured so that we might enter into this promised land by grace. You are our victorious warrior!
