Sun.’s Devo - The Promise Fulfilled

Read: 2 Samuel 22:1-23:23; Acts 2:1-47; Psalms 122:1-9; Proverbs 16:19-20 David wrote a song to the Lord the day the Lord rescued him from Saul and all his enemies. He vividly described what God did while Jesus hung on the cross and it went dark for three hours. Jesus cried out to the Lord while death was trying to take him (vs. 1- 7). God responded and the earth shook. God and came down, cloaked in darkness and rain clouds. He rode on a mighty angelic being and fought Lucifer. God rescued Jesus from the power of death because he was sinless and innocent. God kept Jesus safe from all his enemies. They did not take his life from him, Jesus willingly laid it down for us. *** In Chapter 23, we have the last words of David’s that sounds a lot like the things Jesus said. David spoke of his anointing that came from God and the Spirit of the Lord that spoke through him and being the light of the morning. He knew it was his family that God had chosen and made a covenant with and God would ensure his safely and success. The wicked would be consumed by fire. *** In the meaning of the names of David’s three mioghty warriors we learn that: 1 ) The wise one’s will return. 2) God helps those he loves. 3) God will increase the desolation of the cursed. *** In Acts, it was the day of Pentecost and God sent his gift the Holy Spirit. As all men were gathered in Jerusalem for the feast, God sent his gift at the sound of a roaring might wind storm. It filled the house that the disciples were in filling them with the Holy Spirit. They began praising God in the languages of the people who lived in Jerusalem and were there for the festival. When they heard the noise of the wind, they came running to see what what happening. They found the disciples praising God in their languages. *** Peter got up and told them this was the fulfillment of prophecy from Joel 2:28-32. Having their attention, he preached the whole gospel of Jesus Christ and many believed and were baptized in the Holy Spirit and they also spoke in tongues. Three thousand believed and the “Church” was born that day. They continued to meet together and grow in the love of God and for each other. *** Lord, thank you for your Holy Spirit that is still baptizing and filling people with power and love. May we be filled over and over with your Spirit.
